As a psychiatrist, in my work, my face is one of the most important part of my tools, and patients faces are part of the diagnostic process … and understanding the fact of how crucially important is the face on every daily interactions, we must act immediately worldwide to make people, governments, and corporations, conscious that, people faces should not be kept hidden behind materials that do not allow others to see our emotions in our faces expressions. We have been covering our faces emotional expressions for to long, long enough to produce harmful and possibly permanent conflicts on many people, specially in children on the process of developing socialization and all types of learning skills. It could become very deleterious in other ways, altering people normal interactions, allowing only limited expressions of anxiety or humor, just to mention some examples, among the many ways in which normal socialization processes could be harmed by “ masks” that are not made of transparent materials. Of course, as a physician, perhaps is needles to mention that I am very conscious of the importance of constantly following the established safety protocols, always emphasizing the importance of “ covering our faces with nominally validated safety masks” as one of those measures. But scientifically speaking, I am also very aware that advancements in materials sciences technologies, are way beyond the point of capabilities, to provide industries the necessary information and models for the massive production of ,“ Safety Transparent Masks”. If it is done, it will constitute a huge step in allowing human interactions to become as close as possible to normal, which at present, are not . I arrived to this educated conclusion , after a clinical survey among my patients showed a 99% of preference for a transparent mask if they were given the opportunity to choose between wearing a transparent versus not transparent mask, given the fact that both complied with required safety certifications. It is not difficult to conclude that in general, compliance in wearing them, will improve considerable. Getting used to “not showing our faces”, is actually not a choice, it has been forced on everyone, and perhaps we could blame the “crisis “, but it is time to recognized that it is dangerous for our specie, and socially interactively speaking it could lead to dehumanizing behaviors . I emphatically ask you to discuss this issue with people close to you, and if you are a member of the professional healthcare community, open a serious discussion about it. We must promote this idea and make a big effort to convince gubernamental health institutions to consider and seriously study how really important it is, for a already emotionally affected global community. Personally , trough the clinical experiences with my patients, I am ready to recognized the importance of wearing “ Transparent Masks” , and to reaffirm that it should be consider a crucial mental health issue . Our children and society in general, should not be allow to continue exposing themselves to the unnatural process of not showing their faces, if this continues it could become harmful to all , from many angles including developmental, psychosocial and as a contributing anxiety generating factor.
